They're Out for Blood

Photo by Robert A. Reeder/The Washington PostBE SURE TO GET BUG SPRAY, but it may not help. Over the past few years, the Washington area has been invaded by a very aggressive mosquito, one that "shuns green space and clear water for crowded urban cover," as The Post's Elizabeth Williamson writes today. The first swarms are expected in about two weeks, and they won't hesitate to suck your blood during the daytime. And even better:

Tiger mosquitoes can carry such diseases as West Nile and encephalitis. But they are better known for chasing the residents of entire neighborhoods from their back yards.
Check out this video from washingtonpost.com. These pests seem nasty.

» VIDEO OF THE DAY: According to this video advertising the fictional film "C Is for Cookie," there is a cookie supporter terrorizing Sesame Street! And Oscar the Grouch has somehow become a cookie-hating fascist dictator. Thank goodness we have Elmo leading the resistance. But is he a sweets insurgent or a baked-goods freedom fighter? Please discuss. [YouTube]

» WOE IS ANN: As we mentioned on Monday, we got a peek at Ann Coulter's legs at the Capitol File's White House Correspondents Association dinner after-party. We couldn't actually see her body because, well, she's skinny -- but she was also surrounded by a number of suitors. Apparently, that's nothing new for the conservative pundit. She has "suitors by the thousands," she tells Vanity Fair. Unfortunately, in the end, she only finds herself "sampling the Starbucks at airports." [Vanity Fair via Lowdown/NYDN]

» IRANIAN SOCCER: Let's hope that armed conflict does not pop up during the summer between Iran and the United States. If it were to happen during the World Cup, then we're sure that any potential match between the U.S. and Iran would be put on hold or something. And that would deny Disney the chance to make a movie in the style of "Miracle" 24 years after the fact. In the meantime, brush up on your Iranian soccer knowledge. The Iranian team's mustaches are apparently a force to be reckoned with. [Deadspin]
