Stop the Presses! It's Hot Out.

Photo by Michael Grass/ExpressIT'S HOT OUTSIDE. We just ran across the street from Free Ride's Arlington bureau to get coffee and were hit by the stewing 90-degree temperatures mixing together with auto exhaust and wafts of Wendy's fryer grease. When we looked out from the vista that our office gives us of the District, downtown D.C. looks downright soupy. But we can still see the National Cathedral (at right), so it's not that bad. But the first big heat of the year naturally gets weather gawkers all excited. According to comments on Capital Weather, it hit 91 degrees before lunchtime in Foggy Bottom, where it later hit 96 degrees. And a "robo-observer at Frederick is claiming 95," says Capital Weather's Steve Scolnik. And with this inclement weather, school isn't cancelled. Why aren't they thinking of the children? It's hot out!

» THE HOLY BRANGELINA BABY HAS COMETH: As you surely learned over the weekend, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's baby was born, a girl named Shiloh. Because of all this Shiloh-is-the-biggest-baby-news-since-Jesus chatter, we got a hearty laugh out of this image made by Gallery of the Absurd. To us, it makes Pitt and Jolie into a modern-day Constantine and Theodora. Someone should preserve our modern-day happy imperial couple in a mosaic. They just have to find a Madonna figure to make it look like the real thing. [NYM; Gallery of the Absurd]
