Map It:  Court House

CONTINUING TODAY'S DESTINATION FOOD COVERAGE, we got some take out from Delhi Dhaba in the greater Court House area of Arlington. Photo by Michael Grass/ExpressFor $5.40, we got the Quick Pick special, at right, with rice and two selections from the buffet: Chicken Korma and Cabbage Muttur. Good deal. Over lunch, we spied an interesting article in today's Financial Times by Alison Maitland. It details a new survey about mean and/or rude bosses or managers. And one example of poor management is a boss who will do the following. From the FT:

A respondent in his 40s says: "One so-called member of the local management team regularly makes snide comments by e-mail and presses the 'send' button as he puts on his coat and heads for home, knowing he won't see the people he's targeting for several days because of their shift patterns."
Hmm, the end of the day is near. Will your boss send you an annoying e-mail about some botched training document or leaving cream cheese out for days after free bagel day in the company lunch room? Friday lay-off notices aren't so great either.

Do you have any similar bad-boss horror stories to share? Let us know in comments.

» TREND TRACKER: As you may have heard, the folks at Google have come out with their new Google Trends, which tracks the popularity of searches by geography. Sort of a cool concept, but so far, it will only be able to geographically drill down to very popular searches.

From Anand Giridharadas' article in the International Herald Tribune:

No country's secrets are spared.

Pakistanis look up "Danish cartoons" more avidly than anyone, according to Google. They also lead the rankings for "sex" -- with their neighbor and nuclear rival India seldom far behind.
We tried a few Google Trend searches. When you search for "alcohol," two Australian cities come in at No. 1 and No. 2, Perth and Brisbane. But Washington comes in at No. 10. Way to be, D.C.!

When you Google "Nancy Pelosi," the House minority leader from San Francisco, Washington comes in as No. 1 (perhaps it's related to Wonkette's Congressional Cat Fight in which Pelosi beat out Georgia Rep. Cynthia McKinney.

But when you search for "Klingle Road," nothing comes up. See Cleveland Park, Woodley Park and Mount Pleasant, nobody cares about Klingle Valley. Can this settle the debate? [Google Trend; Wonkette]

2006-05-12-paris.jpg» LIVE FROM E3: For some reason, some company thought that a Paris Hilton video game would be a good idea. The hotel heiress swung through the E3 Expo in Los Angeles on Thursday to promote "Paris Hilton's Jewel Jam" (probably causing much fogging of glasses and reaching for inhalers among the gathered crowd of gamers). The problem? In a public appearance, she thought it was called "Diamondquest."

According to this post at Mobile Magazine, the Hilton game is essentially a repackaged version of cell phone game Bejeweled:

While [Jewel Jam] appears to be just another game that cashes in on a popular franchise -- or a pretty girl, as the case may be, but Jewel Jam actually keeps you interested and is excellent for killing time while waiting at the bus stop. Best of all, as the gems clear off the field, you expose a series of photographs of Miss Hilton for your hormone-driven pleasure.

  • I would just like to say that whoever owns KCW 6757 better read this before it is too late.. driving with a cell phone and skipping lights and not noticing almost hitting a bicyclist might bite you very badly soon... things might boomerang back to you very badly soon if you don't take care of your drive-show-offs in DC...
