This Weekend's Top Stop: Folklife Festival

Courtesy SmithsonianTHE 40TH ANNUAL FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL, sponsored by the Smithsonian, begins this weekend on the National Mall, bringing together the diverse cultures and traditions that span the North American landscape. The festival will last until July 11 and offers daily music, storytelling and dance performances, as well as food and crafts.

Among this year's festival programs is a look at the western Canadian province of Alberta, pictured here, a sampling of Native American basketry, a concert series featuring African-American musical traditions from New Orleans and "Nuestra Musica, a program of music from Latino Chicago. Whether you're looking to learn from its exhibits or just sample some great food and free music, this festival's got something for everyone.
