Dog Days Unleashed This Weekend

Map It:  U Street-Cardozo

Photo by Bill O'Leary/The Washington PostWITH THE WEATHER COOLING DOWN this weekend — well, sort of — it might actually be tolerable to venture outdoors and enjoy the city. If you're in the vicinity of 14th and U streets NW, you might want to check out the 7th annual Dog Days of August Sidewalk Sale and Festival, hosted by the MidCity Business Association, on 14th Street NW between P and U streets on Saturday and Sunday. Remember, the District's sales tax holiday on individual clothing under $100 will be in effect. There's plenty of other stuff going on at the sidewalk fest and in the surrounding neighborhoods.

If you're afraid of dogs, steer clear — but if you love 'em, head on down to 10th and U streets NW for the 3rd annual "Best in Show" dog contest, which will take place Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m.

The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. There's no word on whether local gal Ana Marie Cox, author of "Dog Days" will make an appearance.
