2006-08-02.ad.colbert.jpgWIKI SITUATION: These days, it seems any time Stephen Colbert opens his mouth, chaos ensues. This week's global disruption involves Wikipedia, the encyclopedia of whatever numbskulls around the world believe. Completely missing Colbert's more-than-valid point about such "user-generated" Internet information — if you say it, it becomes true — Wiki denizens are up in arms after swarms of viewers stampeded the site to create new facts. It is, of course, exactly what Wikipedia is designed to do, but it seems the Wiki crowd would prefer being the only ones invited to arbitrarily establish the truth. Here's the Colbert segment that set off the Wiki wackiness ... and while you're at it, did you know that copies of the Washington Post Express have medicinal properties? It's true, because five minutes ago, we decided it was — read it here, on Wikipedia!

» LUKE, I AM YOUR BOSS: The Internet is crammed full of dumb Star Wars satire — mostly because, and you didn't hear this from us, many of the people responsible for what is on the Web are kinda dweebish. (But that's OK, we love ‘em anyway.) Darth Vader spoofs are a dime a dozen, for sure, and their prevalence has gotten to the point where it's hard to really get us interested enough to bother. So believe us when we say that "Chad Vader — Day Shift Manager" holds its own among the competition. Not to say it isn't still kind of dorky, though. [YouTube]

» FUNNY, RICHARD NIXON DIDN'T MAKE IT: Yesterday, we brought you England's ICONS project, a noble undertaking to collect cultural phenomena that remind the British why they're so weird. Not to be outdone, California has just created the California Hall of Fame to highlight those Californians who are famous. The introductory class is rather smallish — only 12 inductees — leading us to suspect that this is just another thinly-veiled ploy to find new ways in which to further memorialize Ronald Reagan.
