Tonight's Top Stop: Lyle Lovett at Wolf Trap
CALLED the "Thinking Man's Cowboy" by the New Yorker (the magazine's lengthy profile of the authentic cowboy can be read here), Lyle Lovett has recorded rock, blues, folk and other kinds of songs but he originally became semi-famous in the '80s for being a country singer. Of course, he became super-famous in the '90s for being Julia Roberts' husband. In recent years, Lovett's reclaimed his roots: smart, lovely — heck, impeccable — songs about trucks, cheating hearts, God and other staples of life in Lovett's beloved small Texas town will probably dominate tonight's performance, where he'll be backed by his long-time band, aptly called His Large Band. Lovett's most recent album, 2003's "My Baby Don't Tolerate," can be heard in its entirety here.
