Week in Review: Week 38

THIS WEEK BROUGHT many headaches for the Bush administration, especially toward the end of the week as Capitol Hill served up a large helping of bipartisan criticism of President Bush's new strategy for the Iraq war, which involves adding more than 20,000 new troops to the ground.
But the White House isn't the only place where officials are playing defense in the face of an onslaught of negative headlines. Over at Metro headquarters, the transit agency started off the week dealing with a derailment of a Green Line train that injured around 20 people. (It did, however, distract irate commuters still fuming from the fare hike proposal.) Remember that through the three-day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Metro is shutting down and rerouting the Blue Line for construction, which is forcing the Yellow and Orange Line to travel on stretches of track that they would normally steer clear of. All the fun on the rails starts at 8 p.m.
What else happened this week? Let's review.
» A friendly reminder: Don't come into contact with the Anacostia River.
» The city didn't blow up this week. It also didn't snow. Count your blessings. But if it does soon, watch out for these.
» Sarah Jessica Parker is plotting her revenge on Virgle Kent. But if the ladies aren't dishing out quality dating advice for Kent, perhaps he can pick up some pointers from Silver Spring native Niels Hoven, who is really, really clever.
» Now that Virginia's transportation funding crisis has been solved (oh, wait), lawmakers now have the time to figure out ways to attack those smaller quality-of-life crimes — like being duped by The Drifters.
» Marion Barry knows how to dance.
» The good citizens of Ward 3 don't care about D.C. voting rights.
» Don't forget about this weekend's health and fitness expo.
Have a good weekend. We'll be back on Tuesday.
