Finally, M'Dawg Haute Dogs Opens
CRAVING A HOT DOG with a side of nostalgia? After a few weeks of delays, M'Dawg Haute Dogs have finally arrived. District residents may not have ready access to Usingers or Chicago Red-Hots from Wrigley Field, but for now at least, they can head to 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan and order a dog that staves off an appetite for home.
These haute dogs aren't just for Midwesterners, though. The proprietors are inclusive folks. They've represented New Jersey's deep fried (The Split-Beefer $4.95) , New York's Hebrew National (The Oy! $4.95), Louisiana's andouille (The French Made $6.73), and D.C.'s half smoke (The Chubby $4.95) on the menu. The most popular selection on opening day seemed to be the Wisconsin bratwurst (the Wunderbrat $5.23), which was 86ed by the time this writer arrived.
Prices aren't super cheap, but customers get plenty for the money as compared to an average hot dog stand. For $2 extra, "Uptown" toppings include a variety of mustards, chutneys, slaws, and toppings to choose from, prepared by chef Greggory Hill of the Golden Triangle's David Greggory. "Downtown" freebees include the usual relish, catsup, and mustard options.
Fries are crinkly-potatoes rather than Belgian-style from across the street, served naked or topped with chili and or cheese. For the few with room for dessert, order one for the road: Ginger snaps, a homemade Rice Krispie treat or doggie biscuits for the pooches waiting patiently outside.

Maybe it's changed, but when I was there this Sunday, the Uptown toppings were only $1
