Fit: Ghosts in the Machines
THERE'S NO SUCH THING as a miracle device to get into shape, says Jerry Hill, the owner of Old Town Alexandria's new CrossFit Challenge (305 Hooff's Run Dr., 267-250-0835).
So, as an introductory offer for his business, Hill is asking folks to dump any dust-gathering fitness gizmos they have into his "Fitness Cemetery," aka his family's backyard. Plots start at $5, depending on the size of the object, and anyone who offers up something for burial gets 25 percent off the monthly membership fee ($50 off the usual $197).
"People have been sold on the quick and easy," explains Hill. His program, like other CrossFit affiliates in the area, is anything but easy, as he directs students through grueling sessions of push-ups, chin-ups, lunges, bear crawls and more.
No one has taken him up on the graveyard plot concept yet, but we'd love to see the tombstones people can come up with for their long-forgotten Thigh Masters.
