Cheh Pushes D.C. Trans Fat Bill
THE DISTRICT is certainly not a friend to libertarians. First, smoking was banned. Now, D.C. Council member Mary Cheh, at right, is looking to cut trans fats from the city's restaurants and other eateries.
As The Current newspapers' Natalie Gontcharova reports, legislation was introduced last week that would bar the use of trans fats, with a few exceptions, including places that serve free meals to "unemployed, homeless and other disadvantaged populations." Hmmm ...
The bill is under jurisdiction of the Heath Committee, chaired by At-Large Council member David Catania. The Current, which, sadly, doesn't post its stories online, reports that the bill has not been scheduled for a hearing.

It's good to know that when push comes to shove, it's still okay to kill poor people. I'm so glad that my city council can't think of better things to do than ban vices that I pay for with my own money.
