Face Time: Amanda Peet

Photo by Peter Kramer/Getty ImagesGETTING HITCHED AND PREGNANT are familiar territory for Amanda Peet. But her character in "The Ex" faces some additional challenges. She's ditched her New York law career to move back to her hometown with her husband and child. And his new boss (Jason Bateman) still carries a torch for her from their days on the cheerleading squad.

» EXPRESS: Your leap on top of Jason was very impressive. Were you ever really a cheerleader?
» PEET: No. Jason and I had to have cheerleading lessons. These professionals came in and showed us how to do it.

» EXPRESS: But you are really a new mom. What do you think of maternity clothes these days?
» PEET: They're so cute.

» EXPRESS: So, what did you like to wear?
» PEET: I just wore sweatpants all of the time. But I liked baby-doll dresses, too.

» EXPRESS: But now what are you wearing post-pregnancy?
» PEET: Right now, it's sweatpants and a big, huge bra that looks like it belonged to my grandmother.

» EXPRESS: I hear one of your friends from college is your stylist.
» PEET: It's true. I don't trust my own sense of style.

» EXPRESS: So, can you ever go shopping alone?
» PEET: When I do, I always call her to describe what it looks like so I don't buy something I shouldn't.

» EXPRESS: Have you ever bought anything totally hideous without getting her permission?
» PEET: A million times, which is why I call her now. There have been a lot of bad pants that make me look fat.

» EXPRESS: I don't believe that's possible. What about makeup?
» PEET: I go to a dermatologist in California and she fixes up my skin. Usually, I don't wear makeup at all, unless I'm going out at night or on an audition. I'm just lazy.

» EXPRESS: How stressful was your wedding planning?
» PEET: Not really that stressful. I didn't have time to worry about it. I would get a call asking if these plates were OK and I'd say, "Just make sure people have something to eat off of."

» EXPRESS: And now you have a baby to deal with. Do you have a ton of toys?
» PEET: Not yet; she's not grabbing anything yet. She's just started to smile.

» EXPRESS: Does she look more like you or more like your husband?
» PEET: She really looks like both of us. She looks like David [Benioff] when she's scowling, and she looks like me when she's peaceful, which is the opposite of how it should be.

» EXPRESS: Whose eyebrows does she have?
» PEET: We both have big, huge eyebrows. She didn't have them when she was born, but she's getting them.

» EXPRESS: Any chance you'll move to the Midwest like in the movie?
» PEET: No. I really love New York and L.A., and I don't have any desire to live anywhere else, except abroad. When I was little, I lived in London, and I'd like Frances to get to live overseas, too.
