Giada Is No Better Than Rachael Ray
TODAY'S RELIABLE SOURCE brings us some depressing news: Italian cooking maven Giada De Laurentiis, considered the more refined, more competent, less perky version of that Food Network "yum-o" personality Rachael Ray, doesn't know much about Adams Morgan.
The Post's Amy Argetsinger and Roxanne Roberts listed De Laurentiis' slips on a recent episode of "Weekend Getaways":
» Described Cafe Atlantico as an Adams Morgan eatery. (Giada, it's downtown!) At least she got the video right, rolling images of Penn Quarter — while extolling the wonders of Adams Morgan.
» Explained that Georgetown is "just outside of D.C." (Oh, close enough, Giada!)
» Rode the escalator out of the Dupont Circle Metro station . . . while carrying a cup of coffee! (Giada, you could get arrested for that!)
Those fatal errors put De Laurentiis on the same level as Ray, whose "$40 a Day" show focusing on D.C. put a bitter taste in this writer's mouth. She got visibly giddy when she saw men in suits and ties eating at, of all places, Clyde's in Georgetown, for a "power lunch." (Ray got away with a bill totaling $10.50. That's suspicious ...)
Ray also said that Penn Quarter "means New Arts District." Oh really? What language is that?
Giada, you're supposed to better than Rachael. Saying Cafe Atlantico is in Adams Morgan is an error that can't be forgiven. Now, out of town foodies are going to be trolling 18th Street NW for fine dining. Hopefully, those who are lost will find their way into Casa Oaxaca.
