California Rep. Charged After Scuffle at Dulles

Photo courtesy C-SPANALTHOUGH DETAILS ARE SKETCHY, Rep. Bob Filner of California was apparently involved in an altercation at the Dulles Airport baggage claim Sunday night, and as WJLA/ABC7 reports, has been charged with assault and battery.

During the scuffle, Filner allegedly pushed a United Airlines employee aside and refused to leave an unauthorized area, WJLA reports. Filner, a Democrat from San Diego, is scheduled to appear at an Oct. 2 hearing.

Since we don't know much about what happened, we can only guess that Dulles-induced travel stresses might be to blame.

  • I am not a Democrat, and would never vote for Filner. That said, his involvement with the Freedom Riders Organization came at a heavy price. It was one of the main reasons the civil rights for African Americans was signed. That jail term is a badge of honor for those of us who are old enough to know these things.

  • It's not the liberals...or the republicans. this has to do with our air transporation system and how the airline staffs treat us...the customer.. everyone knows that these airline workers think they are above the law. Yes. they do... they acts if we are at disposal to treat us like animals..it's about time somebody stood up and demand some decent service from these airlines !!

  • Get a life, you try to create a story where there is none; should say - it is away of life. Besides it is the damn airline to blame. They always take short-cuts and short change the passengers. These airline employees are short staffed and under pressure and with all that you get one pissed off employee and not willing to help anyone. I travel a lot and i see quite often.

  • Anyone who has been through Dulles knows the arrogant, provocative attitude these TSA agents have there. They SCREAM at if you don't follow their barked commands within seconds. Like I'm supposed to hop around on one foot even though there are 40 vacant seats, because the TSA screams, "YOU CAN'T SIT THERE!" or to stop to juggle 4 pieces of luggage, "YOU CAN'T STAND THERE!" I have a long list incidents that I observed or happened to me at Duckless Airport, that could have quickly escalated if I didn't act dopey-sappy-happy and forget that when dealing with half-bright armed thugs, staying away is better than seeking some fairness. I am a Republican and I hope Bob loses next election, but I'm 100% positive TSA provoked this incident.

  • This is similar to when the police beat up a girl at Reagan National Airport in DC. They assaulted this girl and gave her a serious brain injury and made her entire body black and blue. Then they arrested HER and charged her with a made up crime to cover up the police brutality. The airport police are supposed to be there to protect us from terrorists, not beat up and harass young women, mothers and Congressmen. I seriously doubt Congressman Filner, who devoted his entire life to public service and was on his way to visiting our troops in Iraq, assaulted anyone! Fly through Washington DC at your own risk.
