Circuit Court Judge Upholds Va. Driver Fees

THOSE RILED UP by Virginia's new abusive driver fees should prepare themselves for back and forth legal challenges that are making their way through local courts. As The Post's Tim Craig writes, a circuit court judge in suburban Richmond has overruled a lower-court ruling that struck down the driver fees on constitutional grounds.

The ruling is expected to be appealed.

Closer to home in Arlington County, WTOP is reporting that the office of the commonwealth's attorney general will be getting directly involved in the defense of the stiff administrative fees, which are added on to regular fines for reckless driving and related infractions. The Arlington case, the first one the attorney general's office is getting in the middle of, involves a U.S. Navy veteran caught going 75 mph on Interstate 395, which has a speed limit of 55 mph. Arguments are set for Aug. 20.
