Dupont Fire Shutters Alberto's, DJ Hut, Subway

IF YOU'RE LOOKING for a late-night pizza slice in Dupont Circle, your choices are now slim to few.

A fire that took place early Thursday morning on in the 2000 block of P Street NW just west of the circle has forced the closure of Alberto's Pizza. It's the second blaze to close the much-loved pizza joint in recent years.

Fortunately, Alberto's opened a second branch on 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan this summer, so not all hope is lost. A Subway franchise was also affected by the fire, but there's another location nearby on Connecticut Avenue, just north of Q Street NW.

Since DCist snapped this photo yesterday, the windows of 2010 P St. NW have been boarded up. When we walked through the alley behind the building this morning, more damage was evident and clean-up and salvage crews were on the scene.

The situation upstairs at DJ Hut seems grim. As the City Paper reports, much of music store's LP collection is melted or smoke-damaged, turntables are ruined and there's not much hope for the store's collection of rare and expensive items. Luckily, the store is insured.
