Styles: Sneak Attack
SOUPED-UP SNEAKERS have always been the coolest kicks on the block. And this fall, these wild urban creations are soaring above and beyond your basic New Balance trainers.
From reissued retro classics (Nike Dunks, Reebok Freestyles) to wearable art (Warhol bananas, Marimekko pears), today's treads have transformed into subcultural icons.
Celebrities couldn't help but get into the game with special editions for their footwear-lovin' fans — and, unlike some vanity labels (Jessica Simpson, we're looking at you), Pharrell Williams' and Gwen Stefani's lines reflect star style, not a corporation's.
For local sneak freaks, Major is a must-shop Georgetown stop; the store, which opened in December, sports haute high-tops, old-school skater soles and enough different Nikes to outfit the entire Hoyas basketball team.
Here, Ryan wears Original Tiger sneakers ($60, Commander Salamander, 1420 Wisconsin Ave. NW; 202-337-2265) with a T-shirt from Major ($55, 1426 Wisconsin Ave. NW; 202-625-6732).
