Blog Log: GOP Football Analogies Return!

Photo by Steven King/washingtonpost.comWHAT EVER HAPPENED to Ben Domenech? Ben who? You might remember him as the youthful Republican blogger, pictured at right, who resigned his position at washingtonpost.com after a few days of helming a conservative-focused blog. Allegations of plagiarism in Domenech's past — many as a writer at William & Mary's student newspaper, The Flat Hat — were dug up and he retreated into the woodwork of Republican blog land.

Well, with Republican spirits down in dumps because of scandals, the grim 2006 elections and the prospects of a dim 2008, Domenech has resurrected an old chestnut from the playbook of former Virginia Sen. George Allen, pictured above: When in doubt, use a football analogy!

Allen uses them a lot. This time, Domenech has outdone the ex-senator by stringing a whole bunch of 'em together.

From Domenech's motivational blog post on Red State:

... [W]e got sloppy. We got stupid. We drafted some lames, and one or two guys worse than lames — people who didn't deserve to see the field got major minutes. We let people get cocky, and then get stupid. We started fighting over who should get the ball. We started talking behind each other[']s backs. We started demanding bigger contracts — gotta feed the family, ya know? Or maybe buy that yacht.
Domenech also reminds readers that the late president and GOP hero Ronald Reagan is dead: "The Gipper ain't walking through that door. And good thing, too. If he were, he'd be ashamed." [Red State]

» SINCE SHOOTING PIGEONS in Dupont Circle is highly illegal, if you're re-creating a recipe from the famed French Laundry involving pigeon ... err ... "squab," please note that you can purchase them over the Internet. At Squab.com, naturally. [French Laundry at Home; Squab.com]

» GIVING MARION JONES A BREAK: Sometimes it's best to just best to let your hatred for someone slide. One blogger decides not to kick Marion Jones anymore now that she's down and out. [D.C. Universe]

» QUICKLY QUOTED: On crowd-phobia: "I attended a large street festival several days ago, and, after a few minutes of talking to people and having fun, I looked down the length of the street and saw a sea of people that looked ten thousand strong." [Media Concepts via D.C. Blogs]
