Protesters Reiterate Plan to Target Georgetown
"HEY GEORGETOWN-the chickens are coming home to roost-see you on the 19th!" That's a message left on an anonymous article posted this week on D.C. Indymedia.
This weekend, as officials with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund gather for annual meetings, protesters are planning to amass in Foggy Bottom for their annual protest of said meetings. This year, though, as we reported earlier this month, the demonstrators are targeting Georgetown — a place that "embodies neoliberalism," protest organizers say — for some kind of action. Details are scant, but organizers say the "coalition embraces a diversity of tactics."
According to the D.C. Indymedia posting, Georgetown is the home of "today's global slavemasters," a description that the anonymous writer says is apt since the neighborhood was once home to slave auctions.
Well, if that's the protesters' reasoning, we should remind them that the old Center Market, where the National Archives now stands, was also the site of slave actions. So is it time to march on Penn Quarter? Isn't that the home of D.C.'s neo-Bourgeoisie and mysterious secret societies?
