Coming Friday: Holiday Sales Tax Break in D.C.

Photo by Sarah L. Voisin/Washington PostGET READY, SHOPPERS. Plenty of you are used to hitting suburban shopping malls on the day after Thanksgiving. But officials in the District are trying to make it worth your while to cruise for deals inside city lines.

To help promote D.C.'s retail sector, officials have implemented a post-Thanksgiving holiday sales tax holiday that will start on Friday and run through Dec. 2. The setup is similar to the back-to-school tax holiday earlier this year: The normal 5.75 percent sales tax won't apply to individual items priced $100 or less.
