D.C. Dive Bar Doesn't Want Much Attention
JIMMY VALENTINE'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB, the city's newest dive bar, is a place that's trying to tap into all of the interest in the redeveloping H Street NE corridor. Almost.
As we documented back in August, if you thought places like Rock and Roll Hotel and Palace of Wonders were nestled deep within the H Street area, Jimmy Valentine's is deeper — in fact, it's on Bladensburg Road, some four blocks northeast of where H Street ends.
So you might expect that the place might want any attention it can get to let the general public knows it exists. Nope. Travel blog Gridskipper said that after it included the joint on a list of the city's best dive bars, it received "a request from the owner of Jimmy Valentine's Lonely Hearts Club asking ... to remove their bar from my list because they are trying to spread word via 'word-of-mouth.'"
Of course, the bar does have a MySpace page which reasserts its off-the-radar exclusiveness: "[O]ur bar's not for everyone but we're pretty friendly despite not liking most people." Proceed at your own risk.

Addison Road
My favourite neighbourhood watering hole is now doomed. The Cools are en route to takeover, in fact I can see them driving over from Wonderland as we speak!
