By the Numbers: D.C.'s Quiet Crime Weekend
IF YOU SAW an abnormally high number of police cruisers patrolling the District over the weekend, it wasn't because there was a sudden surge in crime. The Metropolitan Police Department was staging its latest All Hands on Deck weekend, which increased the presence of police across the city.
As The Post's Allison Klein reports, the department is crediting its show of force for the lack of shootings or other killings between Friday and Sunday mornings.
Let's take a look at the results, by the numbers ...
» 419: The number of arrests made during All Hands on Deck, according to police.
» 3,500: The approximate number of police officers on the street.
» 2: The number of arrests made in homicide cases.
» 5: The number of arrests made in carjacking or robbery cases.
» 10: The number of arrests made for firearms violations.
» 88: The number of arrests made for traffic violations.
» 74: The number of arrests made for drug violations.
» 56: The number of arrests made for disorderly conduct.
» 43: The number of arrests made for prostitution.
» 170: The number of police recruits knocking on doors to introduce themselves to residents and business owners.

"DC has weekend free of shootings" -- then yesterday there are at least 2 i've read of already...14th and girard and north capitol and N. we were just lucky to have a 48 hour period of calm. god bless the cops, but their presence probably had nothing to do with it.
