Cost of Washington Post to Rise to 50 Cents
WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, the newsstand price of the Financial Times rose to $1.85. The Wall Street Journal hiked its price to $1.50. The New York Times' national edition went from a dollar to $1.25. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before The Washington Post, would raise its price too. That day is now fast approaching.
Get ready to dig out some extra change for The Post. Starting Dec. 31, it'll cost 50 cents to purchase a copy of The Post's weekday and Saturday editions, up from the current 35 cent newsstand price. As The Post's Frank Ahrens reports, home delivery and Sunday newsstand prices will not change.
We wholeheartedly agree with The Post's publisher and chief executive Boisfeuillet Jones' sentiments: "The daily newspaper has a lot of value in it for 50 cents." With The Post, D.C.-area residents get a national newspaper for the price of a local one. (Obvious full disclosure: Express, like The Post, is owned by The Washington Post Company.)
