Busy Georgia Ave. Corner Gets Restaurant Anchor
ON THE UPPER GEORGIA AVENUE corridor, the jagged intersection with Missouri Avenue is a major crossroads, but one without the kind of businesses that would make it a real destination. A new restaurant opening next Tuesday, however, will give Brightwood and adjacent neighborhoods in Ward 4 a gathering place close to home.
The place is Meridian Restaurant and Bar, which will be a ground-level anchor for the new Brightwood Lofts. Owners Lynn and Rodney English have hired Michael Robertson, formerly of Zola and Sports Club L.A., as the executive chef. The restaurant will serve "diasporan" cuisine, a spin on soul food, Caribbean, Creole, soul food and Low Country fare such as polenta fries, seared turnip greens, Caribbean bouillabaisse and Cajun Caesar salad.
Weekend breakfast and brunch will be offered, too. Expect anything from grazing fare to heavy hitters such as chicken and waffles and etouffee.
