Boxers and Hot Dogs: The Pug

20080522-unclebrutha.jpg
WITH BOXING paraphernalia plastered on the walls, the Pug is a no-nonsense drink-the-beer, chat-with-the-bartender, consume-large-amounts-of-free-cheese balls kind of bar. But if you prefer a late-night snack that won't leave a coating of orange powder on your fingers, order the $3 "dogs in a pot."

Simmering in a slow cooker with whatever beers are on tap, the hot dogs are then grilled on a George Forman and served with a bag of Utz potato chips. D.C. original Uncle Brutha's Hot Sauce stands out from the mustard-ketchup-relish toppings. Luckily, this quick and dirty snack can be ordered up until 15 minutes to close.
