Voodoo Funk: 'Take Me Away Fast'

THE VOODOO FUNK blog tracks the vinyl-hunting escapes of a German dude named Frank who travels all over West Africa looking to unearth forgotten LPs and 45s — mostly Afro-beat and soul, not so much rumba or cha-cha-cha.
Frank posts MP3 mixes of his treasures that are just killer, as are the record cover and label scans he puts up to document his latest hauls. And his written accounts of crate digging in countries fraught with civil wars, corrupt governments and unreliable transportation make Frank something of an Indiana Jones for the DJ set.
On July 2 Frank is returning to New York City after three years in Guinea, and he'll be hosting his first DJ night July 12 at the Bumpshop.
Documentary filmmaker Leigh Iacobucci followed Frank as he traveled around Ghana and Benin last April, and they're looking for funding to finish the movie. The flick is called "Take Me Away Fast" — which the French-fluent DJ probably shouted a lot as he dodged dodgy situations in his pursuit of vinyl nirvana. The film's trailer is below:
