WHEN YOU THINK of Santa Cruz, you might think of surfing, sand, herbal refreshment — the Beach Boys, perhaps. Not bluegrass.

But Devil Makes Three, one of the best up-and-coming bluegrass folk bands, grew out of the sandy, shaky soil of Santa Cruz rather than out of Appalachia, or wherever you'd expect bluegrass to come from. Luckily, they come to this coast occasionally. You can see them at DC9 this weekend.
