Big Bopper: Eli 'Paperboy' Reed
IF ELI "PAPERBOY" REED actually delivered newspapers in the wee hours, his customers would be in for a rude awakening.
His sound is part '50s sock hop, part Apollo flamethrower and part bluesy porch-rocker — but all soul. His ballads will transport you to a happy, contemplative place — that is, until he lets those pipes of his rip with a scorching yelp.
Give some of his tunes a test drive (or watch a video here), then get on down to Rock & Roll Hotel to hear the sounds of yesteryear come alive with the electricity of a new millennium. The Ambitions and The Jones open.
» Rock and Roll Hotel, 1353 H St. NE; Fri., Sept. 19, 9:30 p.m., $10, $12 at the door; 202-388-7625.
