Bauer by Hour: Jack Saves the Day, Bad Guy Rides Metro

Tony Almeida and Bill Buchannan get ready for a big fight scene in 24

Matt Swenson is a "24" fanatic, but wonders the plausibility of a bad guy riding the Metro after a shootout.

The following takes place between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

JACK BAUER IS A NATIONAL TREASURE. Spurned by the government out to put him in jail for torturing terror suspects, Jack has been rogue on this Day 7 in "24."

Without the assistance of the FBI, CIA, NSA and any other three-lettered agencies you can name, Jack and former CTUers Tony Almeida and Bill Buchannan prevent a chemical plant meltdown, destroy a device that can hack into the U.S.'s mainframe and rescue the prime minister who would run Sangala after an evil general is toppled. And Jack didn't even break a sweat!

Oh, and all of that happened in one scene involving one heck of a shooting match.

Wow, he really is Jack Cool. Next up, he's going to have to rescue the president's kidnapped husband as his first act of this day appears to be playing itself out.

Will the show end with Bauer behind bars? We'll know in May. Until then, Jack will save the day many more times.

Now to the minutes and that infamous Metro ride.

» HUSH HUSH: The president's husband basically sits this one out, lying next to the Secret Service agent he killed last week. He arises only to be held at gunpoint by another evil — aren't they all? — Secret Service agent. Guess who's behind his kidnapping?

» STOP GUESSING:Yes, it's the evil African who kidnapped Sangala's Prime Minister. He may be on a tight budget, though, since we see him riding the Metro's Yellow Line to Virginia, where he lives across from a Korean store in what must be Arlington or Falls Church.

» THE BIG NEWS: That bad guy has a girlfriend, who, of course, has no idea that he's a baddie. She's making lasagna for dinner and he's invited. How cute.

» TRUST NO ONE: Apparently, "24" remembered it's not the "X-Files," so now this rogue unit led by Jack is going to reveal itself to the president, who they can trust. There are still leaks in the government, which will surely be the third act of this day (second act is TBD).

» TECH GODESSES: Janeane Garafolo is the new Chloe O'Brian, except Chloe is still doing her thing. A showdown is inevitable.

» MIA: No Kim Bauer, Naked Mandy or Jon Voight. Boo! Tony may be out of action a while, too, since he isn't going anywhere near the White House while he's still a wanted terrorist.

» WHY THIS SHOW IS "24" AND YOUR SHOW ISN'T MOMENT: The rescue of the prime minister is classic shoot 'em up in which Jack, Tony and Bill go unscathed but all the bad guys except the Metro rider are goners. Way to go Jack.
