Idol Chatter: A Rocky Road

FOR MANY VIEWERS, it seemed pretty clear who was cruising to a win on "American Idol."

Then, last week happened.

Presumptive favorite Adam Lambert tumbled to the bottom of the "Idol" pack in the nationwide poll that decides who sings on and who goes home.

Fellow standout Kris Allen, who, like Lambert, had never seen the raw side of the weekly vote, was also in the bottom three.

The contestants who fared the best -- Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey -- were almost as surprised as the audience to hear of their good fortune, since the mere mention of Lambert's name often provoked more applause than some of their performances.

The fall for Lambert and Allen appears to fly in the face of "Idol" conventional wisdom: They both have a knack for tweaking song arrangements -- a skill that helped David Cook win the title last year -- while Iraheta and Gokey are more straight-ahead singers.

Will this week's focus on rock -- with mentor Slash of Guns N' Roses -- return the competition to form, or did last week usher in a new normal? The answer's anybody's guess.

» TUESDAY NIGHT: Get ready to shake your fists, bang your head and rawk out to the sound of ... Slash's voice, which I don't think I've ever heard. I'll have a recap on Wednesday and yet another on Thursday here at ExpressNightOut.com/idol.

Till then, who do you think's going into this week the weakest? Is one Idolite in more jeopardy than the others or is the playing field leveled? Could Adam really not make the finals? Discuss below in the comments section.

  • It's hard to imagine that the contestant who has consistently had the most downloads on itunes, is the most googled idol ever, has thousands of more posts on the Idol forms than the others, and has had more youtube hits than all the other contestants combined could end up losing. But, then again, it happened to Chris Daughtry?? Although I'm sure Adam Lambert would feel a bit of a letdown if he doesn't win, it frankly doesn't matter. He is a worldwide superstar already and he is the one the pubic is interested in and that producers are going to lline up to sign. Allison may have a career but it's hard to imagine Danny or Kris in the bigtime, cute and talented as they are. Too generic. No star quality. Adam, on the other hand, oooh baby!!!

  • Unfortunately, I think Allison is at the greatest risk. If you read the Adam boards, a lot of fans threw some votes her way because they didn't want to see her in the bottom three again. Danny has a broad base and Kris is the dark horse winning over new fans every week. However, I think you're going to see Adam's fans vote like crazy this week, so he's assured of being in the final three. I sincerely feel he'll be in the final two, but even if he's not, we're sure he's got record producers waiting to snatch him up so he wins either way.

  • Please pass this around.
ATTENTION: To All WORLD WIDE FANS Of ADAM!!! . . .We can VOTE!!!
I read this post from Time:
Im living in Peru and I figured out how to vote with an international telefonecard. Start asking around how you can make foncalls to USA. Im technically not that talented, but I voted full 2 hours last week. My friend in USA just sent me a message when I could start voting and which telefonumber and it worked out great! I placed like 150 votes for Adam on 2 telefonlines! THAT may never ever happen again that an exceptional talented singer like ADAM finishes in the bottom 2. (even if I still think somebody is messing with us) greetings from Lima. . .
I thank Labelle for this information. Please go out and buy those phone cards and tell your friends. But you need someone from US to text you when voting starts and the number of Adam. Im relieved that as a fan from Hong Kong, I will be able to do something for the LOVE of ADAM!!!
P.S. Because America is getting it all wrong.
