Mike, 25, is a legislative assistant. Shawn, 25, is an MBA student. They live in Washington.

» The Main Event: An Aug. 22 wedding. It's formal for the wedding party, but the 250 guests are "encouraged to dress for the heat!" One of Mike's high school teachers, a priest, will officiate.

» How They Met: Through a mutual friend.

» First Impressions: He had just come from playing a baseball game and was wearing a purple uniform. All Shawn could think, she says, was, "Why didn't he go home and change first?"

» First Date: The Red Sox versus the Orioles at Camden Yards.

» How He Proposed: Mike chose one of their favorite activities, running on the Mall, for the big question. They stopped at the Washington Monument, where, "with shaking hands, Mike pulled a House of Representatives envelope sealed with a binder clip out of his back pocket," Shawn says. "I couldn't believe he was proposing in the middle of our run; I hadn't showered for two days!"

» When He Knew: When they were prepping for a semester abroad in Paris, "I knew that I could spend the rest of my life drinking wine and sampling cheeses and bread with her."

» Family Traditions: She's wearing her mother's veil, and they'll cut the cake with the same knife Mike's folks used.
