The Bimbos Are Back in Town: '90210'
TELEVISION'S CATTIEST ZIP CODE is back from its summer break! And since most of the kids spent their vacation in summer school as punishment for their post-prom party, they are ready to let loose and go crazy. The new season starts Tuesday at 8 p.m. on the CW; here's a reminder of what went down at the end of last season — and what to expect from the upcoming season premiere.
Where we left off last season: Things seemed to be going well for rich-bitch Naomi and her love interest, bad-boy Liam — until her big sister slept with him at the infamous after-prom party. Which seems thorny enough — except that Liam didn't realize that Jen is Naomi's sister, and Naomi thought (and still thinks) that it was Annie that he hooked up with instead (really — was anyone's sophomore year in high school this complicated?!). Naomi confronted Annie and kicked her out of the party; in sheer frustration, Annie called the cops and stole some liquor from the party. Liam, meanwhile, was whisked away to a military institution.
At the same time, Ethan confessed his feelings to Dixon's girlfriend Silver — and then they kissed, to the sound of Band of Horses' song "Funeral" (this is perhaps not a crucial plot point, but it's sure better than most of the sleazy pop that usually makes up the show's soundtrack).
Adrianna had her baby after an emergency C-section (and gives it up for adoption), and her virgin boyfriend Navid (ie: not the baby daddy) was by her side.
Season one ended with a hit-and-run accident with Annie behind the wheel, inebriated — and a car with a West Beverly High bumper sticker pulling up afterwards to assess the victim.
What to expect from this season: Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy. The premiere episode is all about the end-of-summer party at the beach club, and there are more love triangles (real or imagined) than you could shake a stick at.
A mysterious stranger shows up from one of their pasts and causes instant misunderstandings, drama, and — yes — jealousy. Silver does finally make a choice between Dixon and Ethan, Annie goes from one bad decision to the next, and Adrianna is still struggling to find some sense of normalcy post-baby. One key member of the cast is noticeably absent — as are the folks from the original "90210." (Oh, and Silver has a fantastic new haircut.)
With all this packed into just one hour, we have high hopes for the drama, backstabbing, and sleaze that're sure to abound this season. And if you're watching it more because it's shiny and glitzy than for any of the plot points, then keep your eyes peeled for some phenomenal dance moves — including one really astounding synchronized dance scene. Since when did the cool kids in high school ever start dancing like that?!
