Yes but you also have to get rid of the crappy players because they are just as much to blame.
By STR , Posted September 28, 2009 4:25 AMYes, but it serves no purpose to do so after the third week in the season. Let him ride out the year and then dump him after the last game.
However, the person the team most needs to get rid of is the owner. Snyder is a typical spoiled rich-boy. Everything he's ever had has been handed to him. He's a worthless punk.
By MildlyMisanthropic , Posted September 28, 2009 4:56 AMThere are plenty of voerpayed players to blame as well, such as Jason Campbell. The team needs to fire players and hire new ones with skill and a willingness to play a team sport.
By Deadskins Fan , Posted September 28, 2009 7:28 AMSure - why not. The Redskins are a joke. It is always about next year!
By Frank , Posted September 28, 2009 8:29 AMI think it's too early to fire the coach at the moment. However, the offensive line needs restructuring, and has needed it years before Zorn took over.
By tscream80 , Posted September 28, 2009 8:42 AMIt's obvious Zorn's days as Redskins coach are numbered. Getting rid him and Jason Campbell isn't the answer. The real problem is the owner. He doesn't know how to run a football to save his life.
By Ron The Don , Posted September 28, 2009 8:51 AMSome of it is Zorn's fault, but a new coach won't change the Redskins for the better.
By brad2 , Posted September 28, 2009 8:51 AMNo, it is the players missing plays. Cambell can't throw. Skins need a new QB, we all know that.
By Anonymous , Posted September 28, 2009 9:09 AMSure, Express. Just have Catoe and Zorn switch jobs.
By DC fan , Posted September 28, 2009 9:15 AMAny chance of getting rid of Snyder instead?

By Monday morning QB , Posted September 28, 2009 10:10 AMPeep out the chart at the bottom of today's Post sports page. Shows identical coaching records through 19 games:
Spurrier 2002-2003 9-10
Gibbs 2004-2007 9-10
Zorn 2008-2009 9-10

Two thoughts:
(a) It may be more than just coaches or players; I see a trend that is the responsibility of the front office.
(b) Sunday's game may not be the truthteller in itself; but, if the Lions lose the next two games, then I would conclude that the Skins need a novel approach.
(c) What kind of dweebs would even track this data, and don't they have a life?
Zorn, Campbell and Portis need to go!
By chris , Posted September 28, 2009 10:12 AMThe players are basically the same ones that couldn't win very often and were on the team before Zorn. Change the players out... like Jason Campbell and get ones that want to play football and work hard to do so. After that, we would be able to see if Zorn can coach a winning team.
By Fire the players , Posted September 28, 2009 10:12 AMTony Dungy made the best comment I've heard, that the upper management treats the Redskins like a fantasy team, so in turn the team has no core theme. This problem goes beyond Zorn.
By RJ , Posted September 28, 2009 10:15 AMFiring the coach after a tough loss is a hallowed NFL rite when you can't fire the owner and general manager, which is what the team really needs. What made the loss so bitter was that until Sunday the commentators were saying that the only team with a more toxic front office culture than the Skins was Detroit. Now it's hard to say even that with a straight face.
By FTO , Posted September 28, 2009 10:38 AMEven better: Build a high-speed rail line to Baltimore. "Nuff said.
By Diogenes , Posted September 28, 2009 10:43 AMI pay top dollar for my boys. I do not need them getting hurt, upset, or sweaty on the field. When we do not win, I will bl;ame the coach because I pay less for him than the other players. I don't want to damage my investment and I failed to write a clause in their contract indicating they had to play hard and try to win. In other words, playying football is their job and a dream job of millions of American men.
By Dan Snyder , Posted September 28, 2009 10:57 AMWe have strange logic in DC. We renew the Metro GM for no good reason. We keep re-electing Marion Barry. Why not keep Jim Zorn? It's at least consistent with everything else we're doing.
By AU Poli Sci Guy , Posted September 28, 2009 11:06 AMLosing to the Lions is about preparation and motivation--a coaches job. Losing to the Giants and Cowboys, is a talent mismatch--the owners and players. This one is on the coaches.
By another person , Posted September 28, 2009 11:36 AM@ another person
Yep, it is on the coach, he personnaly does everything for the players. It was his fault they could not rush, pass, catch, defend, or score.
Sorry, the player's high paychecks should motivate them. If it doesn't, fire a few and see if continuity of pay motivates any of them. Too many sports stars want to be paid for their name, not their results.

I am a youth coach for recreational sprts teams. I can prep the team at practice. I can even try to motivate them. I must put them in the proper positions to utilize their skills. In the end, once they take the field, the game is in their hands. You need to stop trying to make a single scapegoat because the coach isn't it all the time.
If you look at how many coaches the Redskins ahve gone through over the years and look at the core players, you will see that the players are still there. There are part of the problem.

By Express Fan , Posted September 28, 2009 12:58 PMDidn't this forum already float the idea of swapping Catoe, Fenty and Zorn (or was it Acta)? I flipped through a few of the archives below, and couldn't find the comment. Although, the posts have a recurring theme for the past two years - same problems, same inane questions, same frustration among commuters about everything DC. But, nobody suggested that Rhee and Zorn switch (yet).
Who's Jim Zorn and why did they feed him to the lions?
By Anonymous , Posted September 28, 2009 1:02 PMThe problem is not just the team and coach but management as a whole. If they are hiring good ole boys instead of someone who is qualitified to help them win. Zorn needs to be given a chance but the team management needs to get players and staff who supports the team whole heartedly and not just the overpaid stars.
By Ericka , Posted September 28, 2009 1:17 PMThe problem is not just the team and coach but management as a whole. If they are hiring good ole boys instead of someone who is qualitified to help them win then you see what we have gotten good players that can't win a season to the playoffs. Zorn needs to be given a chance but the team management needs to hire people qualified to coach a team to victory. It takes teamwork and obvisiously something is wrong all over the team from the players to the coaching staff to management there is a disconnect.
By Ericka , Posted September 28, 2009 1:20 PMWho says Snyder can't be fired? Just allocate a billion or so in Federal stimulus dollars, invoke eminent domain, appoint a football czar and adopt a more p.c. name--like the Greenskins. After all, it's in the national interest for Washington to enjoy the same monopolistic power in the NFL that it imposes on we the people. Maybe "The Washington Leviathan" would be a more appropriate name.
By NoChildLeft , Posted September 28, 2009 3:08 PMI voted NO because the Whole Team is crappy!!! The whole city of Detroit is going through a Money Crisis. The Lions can save Detroit alot of Money if the whole team left town.
By isiscey , Posted September 28, 2009 7:15 PMZorn was a great player and it is unfair to blame him, when his players don't hustle like he did years ago. Still, this was a loss to the Lions, a JV team if I ever saw one. If I was Zorn, I'd bench a slew of players and hope to get some 2nd stringers with some heart.
